Ilyushin Il-76
Heavy jet transport
On display
The Il-76 combined jet speed with the field capability of a tactical transport: high-flotation multi-wheel landing gear, powerful wing devices and four D-30KP engines deliver forty tonnes of cargo to an unpaved strip half the usual length.
The aircraft became a universal sky truck: dropping vehicles and troops, hauling humanitarian cargo, fire-fighting with two water tanks, serving as a flying hospital and as the Il-78 tanker. Its geography covered every continent, including the ice runways of Antarctica.
The museum machine is a civil Il-76TD that finished its career on Arctic routes. The cargo cabin with the ramp open is a walk-through exhibit.
