Mikoyan MiG-29

In the MiG-29 the fuselage and wing merged into a single lifting body: the whole airframe generates lift. Two RD-33 engines with auxiliary upper intakes allowed operation from damaged runways, and the helmet-mounted cueing system with R-73 missiles gave the pilot a decisive edge in close combat. The fighter entered service in 1983 and spread to some thirty countries. The Swifts aerobatic team has demonstrated the type since 1991. The museum example is an early-series single-seat MiG-29 transferred from a service regiment at the end of its flying life. Training mock-ups of R-27 and R-73 missiles are displayed under the wing.
